Meet your teacher!

Hello! I am Anna Weddington, violinist, violist, Suzuki registered violin teacher, and founder of Weddington String Studio, LLC. I teach violin and viola lessons for kids and adults of all ages and levels of experience.

I was a Suzuki kid and began playing violin when I was 3 years old. My first violin teacher was my mom, also a Suzuki teacher! I have over 20 years of experience teaching strings as an orchestra director in public schools and youth orchestras, a private violin teacher, and Program Director of an El Sistema-inspired youth orchestra in Central Kentucky.

I have degrees in Violin Performance and Music Education from the University of Kentucky and am currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Education with an emphasis in Pedagogy from East Carolina University.

I am excited to build a thriving strings studio in Charlottesville, and my dream is to start a friendly community orchestra where all ages and levels of experience are welcome!

My teaching philosophy

“Character first, ability second.” Shinichi Suzuki

I believe that music enriches lives, brings people together, and builds community, and that opportunities to participate in making music should be available to people of all ages and backgrounds. While I have taught in public schools, most of my teaching has been in non-traditional settings, serving as Program Director for an El Sistema-inspired strings program, conducting a youth orchestra ensemble, and teaching group and individual lessons in community music schools. In every setting, my primary goal is to meet my students where they are, create a warm learning environment where students feel valued and engaged, and help each student make steady progress toward their goals as musicians and lifelong learners.

The Suzuki philosophy is founded on the belief that “every child can”, and I draw from a wide range of resources to make learning to play an instrument fun and fulfilling.

"My children have loved taking lessons from you! I have been so happy with the progress they have made. The notes you write for them every week have been really helpful in working with them during their practice times. Thanks so much for all you’ve done with them!"

—Parent of a violinist and cellist

“Anna is a thoughtful and patient teacher who cares deeply about helping you reach your goals and making sure that you feel your time is being used wisely. I had never had a violin teacher ask me whether I wanted to continue working on a piece or not before! I appreciate Anna’s investment in my learning process and helping me find what works best for me.”
